What’s Happening Beyond Markets?
- Industrial production in India expanded by 7.3% from the previous year in June of 2026, firmly above market expectations of a 5.7% growth rate to mark the sharpest pace of expansion in nearly two years. The result consolidated the rebound from lower growth rates in the start of the second quarter, when the war in the Middle East triggered energy shortages and lifted input costs for power-intensive industries.
- Border trade between India and China via Lipulekh Pass will resume on August 1. Twenty Indian traders will visit Purang to check preparedness and existing stock. This trade, halted in 2019 due to the pandemic, is vital for the region. Local traders and tribal communities anticipate significant economic relief from this resumption.
- The Ministry of Finance in its latest report has said that Indian Public Sector Banks (PSBs) have witnessed a significant improvement in their financial health, with healthy balance sheets, historically high profits and multi-decadal low level of gross non-performing assets (GNPAs).
- India’s net foreign direct investment (FDI) recovered to $6.95 billion in FY26 from $0.96 billion in FY25, though it remained well below $27.99 billion in FY23 and $10.13 billion in FY24.
- The yield on India’s 10-year G-Sec rose to around 6.79%, snapping three consecutive sessions of losses as investors turned cautious ahead of the conclusion of the Federal Reserve’s two-day policy meeting and rising oil prices weighed on sentiment.

XIRR vs. CAGR: Understanding Return Metrics for Mutual Fund Investing
Most mutual fund investors check their returns and assume the number they see reflects how their money has actually grown. However, the fund’s reported return and your personal return can diverge significantly, depending on when and how you invested.
The answer lies in two metrics: CAGR and XIRR. One tells you how the fund performed, and the other reveals how your investment performed. For anyone contributing through SIPs (Systematic Investment Plans) or making multiple transactions over time, understanding this difference is essential. Read More
