Today’s Top News from the Indian Share Market
The NBFC became India’s seventh-most valuable listed company as the stock surged after the company reported stronger-than-expected June-quarter earnings, improved asset quality and outlined plans to grow its consolidated loan book to ₹6.5 lakh crore by March 2027.
The auto major’s shares rallied, even though its consolidated net profit declined 35% in the June quarter, as the management maintained its previous volume growth guidance of 8% to 10% across domestic and export markets, along with an EBITDA margin target of 11% to 14%.
The state-run gas utility company’s share price increased by 3% after it posted a consolidated net profit of ₹4,292 crore, more than three times higher than ₹1,262 crore reported in the March quarter. Revenue rose 12% sequentially to ₹38,953 crore from ₹34,773 crore.
Shares of the brand behind the brands fell after its revenue grew by 21.1% from the same quarter last year to ₹15,548 crore, while Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) for the quarter declined by 4.1% from last year to ₹463 crore from ₹483 crore earlier.
The FMCG company reported a 16.2% year-on-year (YoY) drop in its consolidated profit to ₹4,394.13 crore for the April-June quarter (Q1FY27). In the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year, ITC’s profit was ₹5,244.20 crore.

What’s Happening Beyond Markets?
- The Union Cabinet on Friday, July 31, approved the ₹84,084 crore Samudra Manthan scheme to boost oil and natural gas exploration and production in India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), in one of the government’s biggest policy pushes to strengthen domestic energy security.
- The Union Government’s fiscal deficit has reached 18.2% of the fiscal 2027 target and came in at ₹3.08 lakh crore for the month of June, according to data released by the Controller General of Accounts. In the year-ago period, India’s fiscal deficit had reached 17.9% of the annual target. The US-Iran war has severely impacted crude prices in the last few months, in turn widening the gap between expenditure and revenue for the nation.
- The Union Cabinet has approved the Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana (PM-SSY), a ₹5,070-crore scheme aimed at significantly expanding India’s floating solar power capacity with integrated battery energy storage systems.
- Deeping bilateral ties, India and Bhutan have reviewed the progress and implementation of India-supported projects across diverse sectors in Bhutan. Further, they inked a pact for a concessional line of credit of ₹4,000 crore (Nu 40 billion) to support development initiatives in Bhutan. The agreement was exchanged between the Export-Import Bank of India and Bhutan’s Ministry of Finance.
