What’s Happening Beyond Markets?

  • India and ASEAN countries have reaffirmed their shared commitment to building a more food-secure, sustainable and resilient agricultural future at the 9th ASEAN-India Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry
  •  India’s merchandise exports grew by around 15 per cent during April-August this fiscal despite global uncertainties. 
  • Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Deputy Governor Rohit Jain has emphasized that policy should provide room for innovation to grow while ensuring that accountability and resilience grow alongside it. He also stressed that policy has to remain informed by what is happening on the ground.
  • The Delhi High Court has mandated biometric Aadhaar authentication for all Goods and Services Tax registrations. This directive aims to prevent fraudulent registrations and curb significant tax evasion detected annually.
  • India has asked sugar mills to ensure adequate supplies during the festival season and sell the sweetener at reasonable prices, while warning it will take corrective measures to keep prices stable as per media reports.
  • The dynamics of India’s trade with BRICS nations have transformed, with imports outpacing exports and causing the trade deficit to reach $226.1 billion in FY2026. BRICS countries now represent over 41% of India’s merchandise imports, although their export share has slightly diminished. With China, UAE, and Russia leading the surge, India must prioritize export growth to these countries to reverse the escalating trade imbalance.
