What’s Happening Beyond Markets?

  • India’s retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index stood at 4.45% in July 2026. While rural inflation hit 4.84%, urban inflation reached 3.96%. Additionally, food inflation was recorded at 5.52% year-on-year for the same period.
  • India’s trade deficit widened to $31.98 billion in July. Despite this expanding gap, merchandise exports increased by 19.63%, reaching $44.24 billion. During the same period, imports also saw a notable rise, climbing 17.52% to hit $76.22 billion.
  • As per MoSPI’s revised National Accounts Statistics, India’s Manufacturing Gross Value Added (GVA) achieved a compounded annual growth rate of 10.88% from 2022-23 to 2025-26. However, the sector’s overall share in total GVA showed no significant change during this period.
  • According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India and the Southern African Customs Union signed the Terms of Reference for a Preferential Trade Agreement. This foundational step aims to provide preferential market access and integrate SACU into global supply chains.
  • As per the Government of India, a CBDC-based Direct Benefit Transfer under PMGKAY will launch on August 14, 2026. Eligible beneficiaries in Chandigarh and Dadra & Nagar Haveli will receive food subsidies directly as Digital Rupee tokens into their wallets.
