What are Debt Mutual Funds?
In investing, debt mutual funds are pools of money that invest in fixed-income securities like government bonds, corporate bonds, and treasury bills. Think of it as being a lender rather than an owner. When you buy stocks, you own a small slice of a business. When you invest in a debt fund, you are essentially lending your money to a company or the government. In return, they pay you regular interest.
In the financial world, these funds are known for offering steady, predictable returns compared to the rollercoaster of the stock market. For everyday investors, debt funds are a crucial balancing tool. While they won’t double your money overnight, they act as a financial shock absorber, keeping your portfolio stable and secure when the stock market gets bumpy.
