What is Stock Volume in Technical Analysis?
In technical analysis, stock volume is the total number of shares bought and sold during a specific timeframe. Think of it like a rumour at work. If one person tells you a story (low volume), you might doubt it. But if the entire office is repeating it (high volume), the story carries much more weight.
In the stock market, volume acts as a lie detector for price trends. You’ll usually spot it as a row of vertical bars at the bottom of a stock chart. For everyday investors, volume reveals market conviction. If a stock surges on massive volume, it means serious money is backing the move. Conversely, if the price jumps on unusually low volume, the move lacks strength, warning you that a sudden reversal could be just around the corner.
