What is the Importance of Diversification?
In investing, diversification is the practice of spreading your money across different types of assets to minimise risk. Think of it like building a cricket team. If you only pick fast bowlers, you’ll be in trouble when the pitch favours spin. A mix of batters, pacers, and spinners prepares you for any condition.
In the stock market, this means not putting all your cash into a single company or just one industry, like tech. Instead, you mix stocks from various sectors, and perhaps add bonds or gold. For everyday investors, this strategy is your ultimate safety net. If an unexpected crisis hits banking stocks hard, your healthcare and IT investments can help cushion the blow, keeping your overall portfolio steady instead of suffering a massive loss.
