What happens to your pending orders from the normal trading session?
If you have unfilled orders when regular market hours end at 3:15 PM, here is how the exchange handles them during the transition to the closing auction session:
- Unfilled limit orders carry over automatically: Pending limit orders with end-of-day validity automatically move into the closing auction session.
- Carried-over orders get higher priority: Orders moved from the regular session get time priority over brand-new orders placed during the auction session. This means if two orders have the same price, your older order executes first.
- Certain orders are cancelled at 3:15 PM: The exchange will automatically cancel any remaining:
- Stop-loss orders
- Iceberg orders (orders split into smaller visible chunks)
- Limit orders with prices that fall outside the allowed closing auction price band
