Terms that put you one step ahead – every day
What is a T+1 Settlement Cycle?
A T+1 settlement cycle means that stock trades are finalised exactly one business day after the transaction date (T). Think of it like online shopping with next-day delivery. You click “buy” today (the trade), but the actual delivery of the item to your doorstep happens tomorrow (the settlement).
In the stock market, when you buy or sell shares, the exchange of cash for stock ownership isn’t instant. “T” is the day you execute the trade, and “+1” means the official transfer of money and securities is completed by the very next trading day. For everyday investors, a T+1 cycle means quicker access to your cash after selling a stock and reduced risk of a trade falling through. It makes the entire market faster, more efficient, and more secure for your investments.
