Here’s a quick wrap-up where we break down the performance of key indices, top corporate movers, and the major economic headlines of the day.

Extending their losses, Nifty 50 and Sensex ended today’s trading session nearly 1.5% and 2% lower, respectively, weighed down by rising crude oil prices, a depreciating rupee against the dollar, and continuous FII selling, including a ₹4,110.60 crore offload on Friday.

Market sentiment was further dampened following PM Modi’s appeal to citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption and postpone expenses like gold purchases and foreign travel. Consequently, almost all sectoral indices ended in the red except for Nifty FMCG, Pharma, and Healthcare indices.

What is Net Income?

In business, net income is the total profit a company makes after subtracting all expenses, taxes, and costs from its total revenue. It is famously known as the “bottom line.” Think of running a bakery. Your revenue is all the money you make selling pastries. Once you pay for the flour, the baker’s salary, rent, and taxes, the actual cash left over in your pocket is your net income.

For everyday investors, net income is the ultimate scorecard. It reveals whether a company is genuinely making money. A steadily growing net income usually signals a healthy, well-managed business, which ultimately drives up the stock price and rewards shareholders over the long term.
