What is Venture Capital?
Venture capital (VC) is funding given to early-stage startups that show massive potential for long-term growth. Think of it like backing a friend’s brilliant new app. They have the vision but need cash to hire coders and market the product. In exchange for your funding, you take a percentage of ownership. If the app becomes a major hit, your slice of the pie becomes incredibly valuable.
In the financial world, VC firms pool money to take calculated, high-reward risks on unproven, innovative businesses. For everyday investors, keeping an eye on VC trends is valuable. The most successful VC-backed companies usually eventually launch an IPO, becoming the next big stocks available for you to invest in the stock market.
