Shares of infrastructure major Patel Engineering Ltd. Limited are in focus today after the company announced it has been declared the lowest bidder (L1) for a massive hydropower contract in Nepal. The project, valued at ₹1,593.08 crore (inclusive of VAT), marks a significant addition to the company’s international order book.
The contract is for Package 2 of the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydropower Project, awarded by SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company (SLPDC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd.
The scope of work is extensive and technically demanding, involving:
- Civil & Hydro-mechanical Works: Construction of a 5.41 km Head Race Tunnel, surge shafts, and a pressure shaft.
- Infrastructure Powerhouse: Execution of the power house, switchyard, and tail race channel.
- Timeline: The project is scheduled to be completed within a period of 54 months.
Strategic Advantage
Located in the Sankhuwasabha District of Nepal, the project is strategically positioned just 35 km away from the Arun-3 Hydropower project, where Patel Engineering Ltd. is already active. This proximity is expected to offer operational synergies and logistical advantages for the company.
Patel Engineering Ltd. has a 77-year legacy in dam and tunnel construction. With over 40 hydroelectric projects already under its belt, this ₹1,593 crore win reinforces Patel Engineering’s dominant position in the high-growth hydropower segment.
