What are Multibagger Stocks?
A multibagger is a stock that returns several times your original investment. Think of it like planting a single apple seed and eventually getting a whole orchard. If you buy a stock at ₹10 and it grows to ₹100, that’s a “ten-bagger”—meaning your money multiplied by ten. The term was actually coined by legendary investor Peter Lynch, who borrowed it from baseball to describe a hugely successful play.
In the stock market, these are often hidden gems, like emerging tech startups or small companies that eventually disrupt an entire industry. For everyday investors, finding a multibagger is the ultimate dream, but it comes with a catch. It requires extreme patience and a high tolerance for risk. You have to buy a solid company early and hold it for years, ignoring the inevitable bumps along the way.
