What happens during the pre-open market session?
The pre-open market session runs from 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM and is divided into three strictly timed phases. Please refer to the table to see what happens during pre-market sessions:
| Session phase | Time | Allowed actions |
| Order entry (phase 1) | 9:00 AM – 9:05 AM | Order entry, modification, and cancellation permitted for both limit and market orders |
| Order entry (phase 2) | 9:05 AM – 9:10 AM | Order entry, modification, and cancellation permitted only for limit orders |
| Order matching & confirmation | 9:10 AM – 9:12 AM | The system matches trades and determines the opening price |
| Buffer period | 9:12 AM – 9:15 AM | The system transitions to the normal trading session, which begins at 9:15 AM |
Note: A system-driven random closure will occur during the last 2 minutes between 9:08 AM and 9:10 AM. This prevents traders from manipulating the opening price at the very last second.
