What is the difference between a P/L and a tax P/L report?
While both statements address your initial investment and expected return (ROI), their underlying objectives are entirely distinct:
| Attributes | P/L | Tax P/L |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Purpose | To give you a quick view of your trading and investing performance. | To calculate your exact tax liability so you can legally file your Income Tax Return (ITR). |
| Timeframe | You can select any custom date range (for example: the last 7 days, 30 days, 3 months, etc.). | Strictly covers a specific Financial Year (such as 2025-2026). |
| Asset Categorization | Grouped simply by instrument type (e.g., Equity, F&O). | Grouped strictly by tax laws (e.g., Long-Term(>1 year), Short-Term C (<1 year), Speculative and non-speculative income, and dividend earnings). |
| When to Use | You can use this as per your convenience to analyze your trading strategies and portfolio health. | Use this only during tax season to give to your CA or upload to the tax filing portal. |
| View & Access | You can view this in the app itself. You can also download this to your device or send it to your registered email. | To view the tax P/L, you can get it sent to your registered email. |
