Here’s a quick wrap-up where we break down the performance of key indices, top corporate movers, and the major economic headlines of the day.

Erasing early morning losses to snap a four-session losing streak, Nifty 50 and Sensex ended approximately 0.50% higher on Tuesday, June 2. The market’s recovery was spearheaded by an over 4% surge in the Nifty IT index, led by TCS, Infosys, and HCL Tech, as investors cheered Nvidia’s endorsement of Indian AI capabilities, strong enterprise deal pipelines, a weakening rupee, and hopes of US rate cuts.

Sentiment was further bolstered by positive global cues, including a tech rally sparked by Anthropic’s IPO filing and Alphabet’s $80 billion equity raise, alongside Brent crude dropping to $93 a barrel amid US-Iran deal negotiations. However, foreign investors remained cautious, offloading Indian equities worth nearly ₹3,912 crore on June 01.

What are Current Assets?

In business, current assets are all the valuable resources a company expects to sell, consume, or convert into cash within one year. Think of it like running a bakery. Your ovens and storefront are long-term assets. Your current assets are the cash in the register, the flour and sugar in the pantry, and the money a local café owes you for yesterday’s pastry delivery.

On a company’s balance sheet, you’ll find these listed right at the top. Common examples include cash equivalents, unsold inventory, and accounts receivable. For everyday investors, this number acts as a crucial financial health check. A company with plenty of current assets can easily pay its short-term bills and keep the lights on, indicating to the market that it is stable enough to weather unexpected economic bumps.
