Nifty 50 and Sensex snapped a three-day losing streak on Thursday, with the Sensex and Nifty staging a broad-based rebound following a 25-basis-point rate cut by the U.S. Federal Reserve. The rupee weakened to a fresh record low amid mounting concerns over the absence of an India-US trade agreement. On the sectoral front, the positive momentum was widespread as most sectors ended in the green.

What is the Average Directional Index?
The Average Directional Index (ADX) is a technical tool that helps you gauge the strength of a market trend, whether prices are moving strongly in one direction, or just drifting. ADX values range from 0 to 100: a value below 20 means the trend is weak or sideways, while a value above 40 signals a strong trend is underway. It doesn’t tell you if prices are rising or falling, just how powerful the move is. Traders use ADX to decide whether to stick with a trend or wait for momentum to build.
For you, understanding ADX can help spot when to ride a trend and when to be cautious, so you aren’t caught in a weak market move that fizzles out quickly.
