What is a Current Account Deficit (CAD)?
Current Account Deficit (CAD) occurs when the total value of goods, services, and transfers a country imports exceeds the value of what it exports. Simply put, it indicates that a nation is spending more on foreign trade than it is earning.
While a moderate CAD is often acceptable for developing economies investing in growth, a widening deficit can be a warning sign. It implies a higher demand for foreign currency, which can weaken the domestic currency and fuel imported inflation. You should track CAD data to gauge the potential volatility of the currency and the country’s reliance on foreign capital to stay afloat.
