What are Financing Activities in a Cash Flow Statement?
Financing activities in a cash flow statement give insights into how a business raises money and pays it back. This section tracks cash flowing in from sources like loans, issuing shares, or borrowing, and cash flowing out when the company repays debts, buys back shares, or pays dividends. It’s about how a business funds its operations and growth, not the day-to-day functioning or asset purchases.
For example, taking a bank loan is a cash inflow, while repaying it is a cash outflow. Watching financing activities tells you if the company is borrowing more, paying its dues, or rewarding shareholders. It’s a simple way to see how a business manages its financial obligations and growth plans, above its regular sales and investments.
