Tata Power Company Ltd.‘s solar manufacturing arm, TP Solar Limited, has announced that its Tamil Nadu facility has crossed 4 GW in cumulative solar module output as of May 31, 2025. The plant, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), has produced 4,049 MW of solar modules and 1,441 MW of solar cells to date.
The milestone comes amid a broader national push for solar self-reliance. Built to align with the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms, the facility is equipped to manufacture next-generation Mono PERC and advanced TopCon modules using fully automated, AI-driven systems. With a rated capacity of 4.3 GW, TP Solar aims to scale up to 3.7 GW of cell and 3.725 GW of module production in FY26.
This scale-up effort supports Tata Power’s broader strategy of strengthening India’s domestic solar supply chain and reducing dependence on imports. The Tamil Nadu facility is already supplying modules for Tata Power’s utility-scale projects, rooftop solar systems, and third-party installations across the country.
A Strategic Step in India’s Clean Energy Journey
The Tamil Nadu plant plays a pivotal role in advancing India’s clean energy goals. As one of the largest integrated solar manufacturing facilities in the country, it supports the national target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. The ramp-up will also improve lead times for solar installations and ensure quality compliance for large-scale clean energy projects.
Women-Led, Sustainability-First Manufacturing
What sets the plant apart is not just its scale or technology, but its workforce and design philosophy. Over 80% of its shop floor employees are women, reinforcing Tata Power’s emphasis on inclusive growth and gender parity in the green economy. The plant has also been built using green building principles and energy-efficient processes to minimize environmental impact.
TP Solar’s Broader Manufacturing Footprint
In addition to the Tamil Nadu facility, Tata Power also operates a 682 MW module and 530 MW cell plant in Bengaluru, which runs at full capacity to support DCR-based manufacturing. Together, these facilities make TP Solar one of India’s largest vertically integrated solar manufacturers.
Powering India’s Energy Transition
As a core part of Tata Power’s 15.7 GW portfolio, 44% of which comes from clean sources, TP Solar’s progress represents more than just production milestones. It underscores India’s growing capability in domestic clean tech manufacturing and Tata Power’s role in delivering innovation, scale, and energy equity across the country.
