NTPC Ltd., India’s largest integrated power utility, and the Government of Gujarat have formally joined forces to explore vast opportunities across the conventional and non-conventional energy sectors. The collaboration was cemented with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference held in Mehsana, Gujarat.
The agreement aligns with both the state’s developmental goals and NTPC’s aggressive national expansion strategy. NTPC currently contributes one-fourth of India’s power requirements with an installed capacity of over 83 GW. Crucially, the company is spearheading India’s clean energy transition with a commitment to achieving 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 in support of India’s Net Zero goals. The MoU paves the way for leveraging Gujarat’s favorable environment and NTPC’s diverse portfolio, which includes thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power plants.
The partnership will enable NTPC to pursue opportunities spanning the full spectrum of the modern energy ecosystem. The company has already ventured into new, future-focused business areas, including e-mobility, battery storage, pumped hydro storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear power, and green hydrogen solutions. By collaborating with the Government of Gujarat, NTPC is committed to adopting best practices, fostering innovation, and embracing clean energy technologies to deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity, further strengthening the state’s energy infrastructure. The MoU exchange took place in the presence of key dignitaries, including Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, and Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Cabinet Minister for New & Renewable Energy.
