Larsen & Toubro Ltd. has secured a large order from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) to construct 156 route km (RKM) of high-speed ballastless track for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor. The order, classified as “large” (₹2,500–5,000 crore), covers Package T1 of the project.
The scope of work includes design, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning of track works on a Design-Build Lump Sum Price basis. It spans the stretch between Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex and Zaroli village in Gujarat, comprising 21 km of underground track across civil packages C1 and C2, and 135 km of elevated viaduct track under package C3.
This is L&T’s second track-work contract for the MAHSR corridor. In April 2022, the company won Package T3 covering 116 km from south of Vadodara to the Sabarmati depot. With the new award, L&T is now responsible for building over 50% of the total track length in the project. The works will adopt Japanese Shinkansen J Slab Track technology, designed to support train speeds of up to 320 kmph, improve ride quality, and enhance durability.
Commenting on the order, S. V. Desai, Whole-time Director & Sr EVP (Civil Infrastructure), said the win reflects L&T’s proven capabilities in rapid technology absorption, value engineering, and timely execution in ballastless track projects. L&T is already executing such projects in major Indian metros, including Bengaluru, Chennai, and Mumbai, as well as international locations like Jakarta.
