How is a GTT order different from a regular order?

  • Regular orders are valid only for the trading day. If they are not executed, they expire at market close.
  • GTT orders stay active for a much longer time (up to 1 year or till contract expiry). They only convert into a live order once your trigger price is hit.

Example:

If you want to buy Reliance at ₹2,000 while it trades at ₹2,300, you can set a GTT at ₹2,000. You don’t have to log in daily—when the price reaches ₹2,000, your order will be placed automatically.
