NSE Indices

NSE indices are statistical measures that track the performance of a group of stocks listed on the National Stock Exchange. They are maintained by NSE Indices Limited (formerly India Index Services & Products Ltd). Examples include Nifty 50, Nifty Bank, Nifty IT, and Nifty Midcap 150.

NSE maintains over 350 indices across broad market, sectoral, thematic, strategy, and fixed income categories.

Nifty 50 tracks the top 50 large-cap companies by free-float market capitalisation on NSE. Nifty 100 includes the top 100 companies, combining Nifty 50 and Nifty Next 50, providing broader market coverage.

Most NSE equity indices are calculated using a free-float market capitalisation-weighted methodology. The index value is computed relative to a base date and base value, adjusted for dividends, stock splits, and corporate actions.

Key NSE sectoral indices include Nifty Bank, Nifty IT, Nifty Pharma, Nifty Auto, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Metal, Nifty Realty, Nifty Energy, and Nifty Media.
