Government Released WPI Base Year 2022-23; June Inflation Rose To 9.87%

The government released the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) with a Base Year of 2022-23. Under this framework, the provisional year-on-year inflation rate for All Commodities in June 2026 stands at 9.87%, rising from 9.68% in May 2026. The index for All Commodities reached 110.2. Corresponding year-on-year inflation rates for major groups are reported at 7.0% for Primary Articles, 27.41% for Fuel and Power, and 7.48% for Manufactured Products. Food inflation, based on the WPI Food Index, observed a rate of 6.14% in June 2026, compared to 4.49% in the previous month.

The provisional estimate for June 2026 was compiled with a weighted response rate of 82.6%. Across all categories, ‘Mineral Oils (containing Petroleum Products)’, ‘Food Articles’, ‘Manufacture of Basic Metals’, and ‘Manufacture of Chemicals and Chemical Products’ have been the major drivers of WPI inflation. Additionally, the provisional Output Producer Price Index (PPI) for All Commodities stands at 109.9 for June, while the trial Input PPI for the manufacturing sector is recorded at 107.1. Meanwhile, the final WPI inflation estimate for April 2026 has been revised upwards from the provisional 8.26% to 8.36%.
