Here’s a quick wrap-up where we break down the performance of key indices, top corporate movers, and the major economic headlines of the day.

Snapping a winning streak, Nifty 50 and Sensex ended nearly 1% lower on Friday, June 19. The downturn was fueled by geopolitical tensions as Brent crude rose to around $80 per barrel following the cancellation of planned US-Iran talks and by ongoing Israeli strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. Furthermore, sectoral performance was largely mixed, with most indices closing in the red, where Nifty IT took the hardest hit as the top loser, and Nifty Healthcare index emerged as the top leader.

What are Liquid Assets?

In finance, liquid assets are cash or other assets a company can quickly and easily convert to cash without losing value. Think of it like your personal wealth. The money in your savings account is highly liquid because you can access it instantly. Your house, which takes months to sell and involves hefty fees, is not.

In the stock market, you’ll see these listed on a company’s balance sheet under “current assets.” Common examples include cash, short-term government bonds, and highly traded stocks. For everyday investors, tracking liquidity is crucial. A business with plenty of liquid assets can easily pay off short-term debts, fund new projects, and weather sudden financial storms. Conversely, a company tied up in illiquid assets might struggle to survive a sudden cash crunch, even if it is technically profitable.
