Highlights:

Indian markets ended nearly flat on Monday after staging a strong rebound from early losses. The Sensex slipped 77 points, while the Nifty closed down 34 points. Sentiment was weighed down by Trump’s 50% steel tariff announcement, escalating Russia-Ukraine tensions, rising COVID-19 cases, and caution ahead of the RBI policy.

What is Net FDI?

Net FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) measures the real flow of long-term foreign investment into India.

It’s not just about the money coming in—it also subtracts what goes out and what foreign investors pull out (like selling their stakes or exiting via IPOs).

Net FDI = Gross FDI Inflows − (FDI Outflows + Repatriation/Divestment)

What does this mean?

  • Gross FDI Inflows: Money foreign investors put into Indian businesses (like building factories or buying companies).
  • FDI Outflows: Money Indian companies invest abroad.
  • Repatriation/Divestment: Money foreign investors withdraw, including proceeds from selling businesses or exiting IPOs.

A higher net FDI means more stable, long-term capital is staying in India, fueling jobs, growth, and innovation. If net FDI drops, it could signal that global investors are taking money out or becoming cautious.
