What is a Block Deal?

A block deal is a large trade typically involving at least 5 lakh shares, executed between two parties through a separate trading window on the stock exchange.

These deals, usually done by big institutions or promoters, are privately negotiated to avoid disrupting the regular market price.

Block deals must be executed within a narrow price band and reported to the exchange.

For retail investors, block deals can hint at major investor exits or entries, and sometimes, signal a shift in sentiment or ownership.
