What Is Core Inflation?
Core inflation filters out the “noisy” stuff, like food and fuel, that tend to bounce up and down due to weather or global oil prices.
What’s left is a cleaner view of how prices are rising across essentials like rent, education, healthcare, and services.
But why should you care?
Because RBI does. When it sets interest rates, it looks at core inflation more than the headline number.
A spike in the prices of vegetables may fade, but if your gym fees, school bills, and cab fares are rising steadily, that’s core inflation talking.
