India & The World
  • Private sector investments in India may rise 66% to ₹6.6 lakh crore in FY25, led by manufacturing upgrades, despite global uncertainties. FY26 may see a slight dip, but optimism stays strong.
  • China’s factory activity unexpectedly shrank in April, with manufacturing PMI falling to 49.0, signaling weak demand, declining orders, and tariff tensions despite government stimulus efforts.
  • Consumer prices in Colombo dropped 2% in April, marking eight straight months of consumer deflation. However, the fall was less sharp as food costs rose and housing and transport stayed cheaper.
  • Brent crude oil fell below $62, marking a third straight loss and its lowest since April 2021, amid rising US-China trade tensions, weak demand signals, and rising US inventories.

What are Bond Yields?

Bond yields are the returns investors earn from lending money to the government or companies.

When yields go up, it usually means investors expect higher inflation or tighter interest rates. Right now, rising U.S. bond yields are making global investors pull out of emerging markets like India.

For India, higher yields can:

  • Make borrowing costlier for the government and corporates
  • Pull money out of stocks and into bonds

For investors, watching bond yields helps understand where the market thinks the economy is heading.
