What Is CASA Ratio?

CASA stands for Current Account and Savings Account. The CASA Ratio tells us how much of a bank’s total deposits come from these two types of accounts.

Why does this matter?

Because current and savings accounts are low-cost deposits. Banks don’t have to pay much interest on them, unlike fixed deposits, which come with higher interest rates.

So the more money a bank gets from current and savings accounts, the cheaper it is for the bank to run its business.

Let’s say a bank has ₹1,000 crore in total deposits. Out of this, ₹450 crore comes from current and savings accounts. That means its CASA ratio is 45%.

Banks with strong CASA ratios, like some top private sector banks, can offer better interest rates on loans while still keeping healthy margins.
