What Is Wage-Led Inflation?

Wage-led inflation happens when rising salaries lead to rising prices.

Here’s how:

As companies pay workers more, due to labour shortages, minimum wage hikes, or union pressure, their costs go up.

To protect profits, they pass these costs onto customers. Prices rise.

But then workers want even higher pay to afford those higher prices.

And the cycle begins.

This is called the wage-price spiral.

Wage-led inflation means higher pay pushes prices up. If unchecked, it can trap the economy in a loop of rising costs and rising salary demands.
