India & The World
  • ICRA estimates India’s Q4 GDP growth at 6.9%, taking FY25 growth to 6.3%, below the National Statistics Office (NSO) 6.5% forecast. Slower private consumption and weak merchandise exports weighed on the quarter’s momentum.
  • India’s MSME sector faces a massive credit gap of ₹30 lakh crore, roughly 24% of total credit demand, according to a recent SIDBI report, highlighting the urgent need for financial inclusion.
  • Moody’s downgraded the US credit rating to Aa1 from Aaa, citing rising debt and interest costs. It expects debt to hit 134% of GDP by 2035, with deficits widening.
  • China’s unemployment rate eased to 5.1% in April 2025, the lowest since December. Joblessness fell across both local and migrant labor groups, while average weekly work hours rose to 48.3.
  • China has imposed anti-dumping duties of up to 74.9% on polyformaldehyde copolymer (a type of engineering plastic)  imports from the US, EU, Japan, and Taiwan, following an investigation into unfair trade practices.
Back to Basics
What is GDP Forecasting?

A GDP forecast is like a growth prediction for the economy, how fast (or slow) it’s expected to move in the coming months.

Agencies like ICRA, NSO, and Moody’s look at trends in spending, exports, inflation, and investments to estimate this.

ICRA now pegs India’s Q4 GDP at 6.9%, slightly below the FY25 official forecast because of weak consumption and exports.

Why does it matter?

These numbers shape policy moves, RBI decisions, and investor mood.

A lower forecast signals caution, while a higher one boosts confidence in growth-driven sectors like infrastructure, banking, and consumer demand.
