Share Market Highlights Today

Sensex and Nifty50 ended higher today, because of strong company earnings and the RBI’s key policy meeting starting this week. Most sectors saw gains, except FMCG and Financials. Optimism on earnings and RBI policy offset recent losses, though global trade concerns kept investors cautious.

What is the Under-Subscription of an IPO?

Under-subscription happens when an IPO (Initial Public Offering) does not get enough buy requests.

Say a company offers 1 crore shares, but investors apply for only 80 lakh. Here, 20% of shares remain unclaimed.

In India, SEBI rules say that at least 90% must be sold, or the money goes back to applicants.

Under-subscription often reflects weak investor interest or broader market uncertainty.

Investors should see under-subscription as a signal to investigate why demand fell short before participating.
