What is EBITDA?

EBITDA = Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation & Amortization.

EBITDA tells you how much money a company makes from its actual business, before paying interest, taxes, or accounting for wear-and-tear costs (like depreciation).

Why investors track it:

  • It shows pure operating performance
  • Helps compare companies across sectors
  • Reveals profit trends even before net profit moves

Like Crompton’s Q4: EBITDA up 30% = stronger core performance.

Net profit tells you how the story ends. EBITDA shows how strong the plot really is.
