What’s Happening Beyond Our Markets?
  • India must double its yearly renewable energy capacity to 50GW by 2030, up from 214GW now, to hit its 500GW goal. This needs $325 billion in total investments, says S&P Global.
  • India may soon shift to a 3-rate GST system by scrapping the 12% slab. The move aims to simplify taxes, as monthly GST collections stay strong above ₹2 lakh crore.
  • UK car sales rose 1.6% in May 2025, driven by business and fleet purchases. Private demand fell, but electric vehicles surged, making up 47% of sales, still below pre-COVID levels.
  • Singapore’s retail sales rose 0.3% YoY in April 2025, slowing from March. Gains in food, alcohol, and mini-marts offset sharp drops in furniture, apparel, and petrol.
  • The U.S. and Vietnam will restart trade talks next week as a July tariff deadline nears. Washington wants Vietnam to cut reliance on Chinese imports; Hanoi says talks are tough but ongoing.

What is Market Capitalization?

Market capitalization, or market cap, is the total value of a company as decided by the stock market.

It’s calculated by multiplying the current share price by the total number of shares outstanding.

Example: If a company’s stock trades at ₹200 and there are 10 crore shares, the market cap is ₹2,000 crore.

Market cap helps investors quickly gauge a company’s size—whether it’s a large-cap, mid-cap, or small-cap.
