What is book building in an IPO?
Book building is how most IPOs in India are priced.
Investors bid for shares within the announced price band, and the company checks where demand is highest. That demand decides the final price.
It’s fair, transparent, and used in over 90% of IPOs.
This process helps the company know what investors are willing to pay, from small retail buyers to large institutions.
Big investors like mutual funds, called “anchor investors,” often bid before others. Their early interest builds trust and can influence other investors to join in.
